@Nancy Lindsay I wonder if this is the same person to whom I just replied on SuspiciousObservers. The name is the same. And if the person is the same, he feels isolated. He wants to engage but doesn't know how to argue, and anything positive he says will probably be overlooked, so he tries to provoke discussion by being a little rude. He'd learn better ways to communicate if he could find them. Perfect question, Nancy, and send the lad a little love, even just in your heart. Love to you, too.

Hi John, I've treated my own depression with psychedelics, the key factors of change are the perspective shift (similar to the overview effect astronauts experience) and the structural brain changes that are caused by it.
Reportedly psychedelics increase the number of neuronal branches (dendrites), the density of small protrusions on these branches (dendritic spines), and the number of connections between neurons (synapses).
Annecdotally, it does feel like your dendrites are replenished, like a consciousness enemma, and some of the changes have been permanent, eg haven't had the same low in lows, no sui. ideation for years, was weekly / monthly

@Navigator It's certainly possible to be in a bad place for a while after a bad experience. You can certainly replace that with a good experience, but you'd probably be too scared to take the psychedelics again for a good while after that. There are things you can do to make it much more likely you'll have a positive experience though. Make sure you're with people you trust very much, and do it in a safe environment. Have pleasant music playing. Learn how to manage when negative things come up so that it doesn't turn into a "bad trip". In reality there's no such thing as a bad trip, it's just not understanding what's happening and how to deal with it. The key is to learn how to surrender to whatever is happening because the moment you do the bad experience will end.

Hi, is it possible to have a bad shift in brain chemistry from a bad experience of psychedelics on a medium to high dose? Is it possible to override that with a fresh new good experience?

    • erin collective
      erin collective 28 dni temu

@Coach Wendy you can grow it yourself. Also it shouldn't be illegal, so the "dealers" are no different from the someone who sells street food, street food can actually be worse for your health than psychedelics (which can improve your health), obviously moderation is the safest option and you don't need to sell your soul to the devil *cough* I mean God *cough* to get there. I was a Christian for like 30 years and it did nothing but make my depression worse, especially when I came out as trans and all my church friends and family thought "Jesus" wanted me to be on my own without help or friends or community. Trust me, Jesus is the riskiest treatment out there, even if you avoid the brain washing as soon as you have the slightest queer thought you're on the line for more hate than you've ever imagined, and all done under the name of Jesus.

From someone who has taken “shrooms” to treat ADD, you don’t need a dose high enough to trip to reap the benefits. A micro dose (non-hallucination causing amount) is perfect with no negative side effects (that I’ve seen) and lasts hours. It feels like adderal without the stimulant feeling and nervousness.

I've done shrooms when I was at the lowest point of my life. It didn't cure me or make me feel better in any way. It only made me see objectively from an outside perspective how negative and pessimistic I actually was. I was reading messages that I had sent to my friends and even colleagues and every single message was so full of negative emotion. My friends had told me that my sarcasm and pessimism was nauseating to them but I always thought I was just being realistic. Also for the first time I realized that my problems were self created and not anybody else's fault. I also could see how much my family had tried their best to help me and how understanding they had been towards me even though I have betrayed them over and over again...

@Vaska Tumir I don't fully understand Christianity yet, but I'm certain that it was Holy Spirit that spoke sense to me while I was on psychedelics. I also think that Jesus is the ultimate "healthy adult" model. Only all conventional therapies expect people to know how a healthy adult would behave or think in stressful situations even though they have never met one. And God is absolute truth and purest love. We all know at least intuitively that it exists even though we have never experienced it. Otherwise we wouldn't KNOW that we are lacking it.
But anyway, I don't fully understand it yet. However, it doesn't seem to be lacking anything and so far it has answered to everything.

This "plandemic" was the best thing that happened to me. I weaned myself off my antidepressant (since 2006) which helped me to NOT need the 10 tablets I had to take according to my Dr because of the side effects the antidepressant gave me. Ulcers, IBS, Fibromyalgia, muscle pains, insomnia to name a few, all gone. So I'm tablet free for the first time in 17 years. So with no smoking drinking and pharmaceutical drugs I am very happy. No more pharmaceuticals for me.

Hi John, many thanks for covering this issue! As a resource on the subject I very much recommend the book "The Psychedelic Explorer's Guid" by James Fadiman, which is an excellent compendium on the use of psychedelics in treating depression and other mental health problems. He was one of the first researchers in the field and the book contains a summary of a lifetime of experience in the field. I have to say that after many years of working as a GP in the UK, I yet have to be convinced of the usefulness of SSRIs. There is a hidden assumption in thinking that depression is caused by an imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain: the thought that a chemical imbalance is there in the first place (I am not convinced this has been proven), and secondly the assumption that it is a chemical imbalance that causes depression. It's possibly a chicken and egg situation. It is possible that is is mental patterns and their habitual recurrence which cause a chemical imbalance, rather than the other way round. In that case, learning how to work effectively with the mental patterns and habits we all have would be far more logical and effective than taking, for example, SSRIs regularly. In the case of psychedelics they do seem to be able to afford patients insight in their mental habits and patterns; this understanding can then be used by the patient to effectively change depressing mental patterns and habits - hence the long term and beneficial effect of these agents. I agree with you that these agents should only be used with great caution and skilled supervision. But they do promise a game changing way forward in the treatment of mental health problems. Let's hope that pharmaceutical industry interests will not destroy the budding research in this field - I can think of some recent examples of extremely useful therapeutics where exactly this happened - as covered admirably in your channel. Keep up the good work! Mathias Sander, GP, UK

If you experienced major depression i don't think you would be thinking habits are causing it. It feels like world doesn't have colors and there is no way out while other people are telling you things are just fine, life is great and so on.
Of course suicides are much worse, i heard this people feel like if they have fallen in a hole, they can only turn around but never look up to see the light and way out. Similar to feelings of depression, of course much, much worse.

I work in psychedelic medicine in the US. Thank you for highlighting this important work we do helping the world heal. Healing with psychedelics is ancient. No matter where you are from, your ancestors used hallucinogenic plants for healing and sacred ceremony. You are right, it is the experience that changes things. The biological mechanism is what changes your state of consciousness and creates the experience. But it IS the experience itself that is where the real healing is sourced.

I watched videos on ketamine, it’s too damaging to the bladder to really be considered a “treatment” (my opinion) It can’t be broken down, no matter what the method of ingestion is.
I grew mushrooms myself, and have yet to even start using them… I only started because the side effects of antidepressants are so awful. As a woman, I had 0 sex drive, no sensation at all. It’s quite ignored as a side effect for women, men are only mentioned as experiencing sexual side effects. No one should have to give something up, just in order to have relief. Depression is so awful, and I hope to get around to start microdosing because I grew a lot.

Fasting works through the same mechanism, raising bdnf! Some of the many benefits of fasting and a lower carb whole food diet on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data:
Fribrosis/scarring is reversed. Reflexes and short term memory are increased. The hunger hormone ghrelin lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting.
Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system.
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system.
Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic.
Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque.
Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods.
Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy!
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus.
Fasting is beneficial for all infections but especially for viral infections:
      plclip.com/video/hriuvUjOTM0/wideo.html
Is fasting just the same as caloric restriction? No! Dieting increases the hunger hormone ghrelin while fasting decreases it and has many other health benefits! plclip.com/video/sVl-nilhWLc/wideo.html
      What breaks a fast? plclip.com/video/7aRLsCpxy3o/wideo.html
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it and builds muscle!
      plclip.com/video/fJUDucBWv4s/wideo.html
Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS.
Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! plclip.com/video/BeC_gIR2Z14/wideo.html
The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, it never uses mainly glucose for fuel and using glucose for fuel is very biochemically damaging! plclip.com/video/Nf1jwMbvNxw/wideo.html
Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses.
Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: plclip.com/video/5RM8GRzsIIg/wideo.html
Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention!
Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections.
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system.
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging.
Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting.
Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period.
Fasting reverses metabolic syndrome, which is tightly correlated to Chronic Fatiguque Syndrome, high blood pressurecancer and many other chronic diseases.
Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice.

@Lee Boyd Actually, the psilocybin that is being used in clinical research is a pharmaceutical version because it is not possible to standardize the amounts from mushrooms themselves, and the parameters for doing research on a schedule 1 substance are extremely strict. The doses have to be exact. I too am cynical about the involvement of big pharma but the most important thing is to remove the legal threat for people who are living with intolerable mental suffering. If the research studies can prove that there is a medical use for psychedelics, they cannot remain classified as Schedule 1 substances. The same thing is happening with medical marijuana and big pharma.

Thank You Mr. Campbell for bringing the attention to the potential of Psychedelic medicine.
I am a long time watcher from USA Virginia.
I can personally attest to the benefits that go far beyond the mentioned in your video.
I participated in many sessions with different medicines on 3 continents.
The “work” done during the session is a lot harder that one can get imagine but well worth it at the end. (You mentioned 20 minutes DMT - well that can be a million years actually)
The path with the medicine that I was called on is very rewarding but also dangerous for the facilitators that pave the road for the rest. I personally know a great man that is in jail at the moment.
Regardless of the risks and with the knowledge that eventually the companies, small and big, will financially benefit and probably will corrupt the experience, we have no choice but to provide the possibility for the people who dare……
    With love and admiration

Thank you, Dr Campbell. It would be useful to understand how self-motivated behavior changes would compare to chemical therapy. I would suspect the majority of mild sufferers do not require medicines. Exercise, academic achievement, greater social contact, and refocusing on creative pursuits would all help break negative cycles of behavior.

@William Stuller yea. I was talking about a single session in a controlled environment. I agree that microdosing it or taking it regularly is sketchy.
DMT temporarily turns off brain regions associated with filtering out perception. Turning off any brain region for a long time causes it to shrink and lose function. So micro dosing will no doubt have this effect on that brain region.

    • William Stuller
      William Stuller 6 dni temu

@Heath Company No, this is being a natural push, sorry, these micro-dosing mushrooms have turned people into paranoid messes. They hear voices even when they are not on the drug, see things, still not on the drugs, see Aliens, talk to Aliens both on and off the psychedelic. I've seen perfectly reasonable people with goals, schooling get into the Yoga wave, followed by these drugs, you wouldn't recognize them as the original person they once were.

That was great thank you John!!, the information you presented was simply awesome! I am so glad people are getting proper information about psychedelics and the benefits they can give! with proper use for helping depression, outlook for the future, addictions like heroin, cigarettes n alcohol abuse, attitude adjustments, etc. I am an experienced user of LSD and psilocybin mushrooms, and they do give you a great feeling afterwards, if taken with the right mindset and in a safe setting and proper dose and sparingly also with considerable trip planning(mostly getting in a good mood days or weeks "before" dosing) beforehand is essential. Don't fear the psychedelic experience John, its actually wonderful, also experienced users know its a learning experience, every time you take it you become better at controlling and directing your trip into the path you want it to go and eventually even hallucinate what your mind wants to see at will. In a word John, its REALLY FUN I've only used shrooms, lsd and mescaline from san pedro a legal cactus they are all great!
John, I recommend an awesome book, of where i learned all about these plants n fungi its a deep book that will greatly further your understanding of the true nature of these substances - The Psychedelics Encyclopedia book by Peter Stafford - enjoy! Now if i could only find some lsd, or shrooms that would be great (because Swiss chemist Dr. Albert Hoffman discoverer of lsd in ergot fugus in 1943 used to trip every 10 years) - its good to "fry on acid" every so often to re-evaluate your life so far, look at your issues from a new perspective to help solve them, see the wonder of life anew again and to be put in a good mood again! plus many other mind health benefits.
Also you are probably right about DMT being the heavyweight of the group because it supposedly takes away your ego as you learn you are part of the universe and you are connected to everything in it its been described as going through doors of perception - DMT is produced in the body and is active at birth, death, in dreams and from taking dmt from plants. A last word - caution and supervision should be used for novices on high doses and the mentally ill like bi-polars and schizophrenics. And if someone is a arsehole and a jerk, just mean or a narcissist, take my advice and DO NOT fry or trip with those people they will just ruin your trip and bring you down. Other than that enjoy the bounty of a journey through the mind!!!!!!

I tried to read and inform myself of what was happening but the jargon used is hard to understand and can easily be misleading or manipulative. Thank you for covering mental health. I think there is a real gap on PLclip that you could fill here where there are loads of mental health channels but the quality is dire. What is needed is somebody such as yourself to bring together scientific research about mental health conditions. My own interest is anxiety that I have experienced most of life. There is a lot of talk about mental health nowadays but the specialist services for conditions such as anxiety and depression are not there and the information that is available by organisations such as Mind is poor because it is mainly full of vague exhortations to be positive and received unscientific opinions.

I've just had a look at Therapy in a nutshell and doesn't seem to be saying anything new so if you already know the basics of mental health I don't think you will learn anything from it and it is not scientifically based, it is effectively somebody's opinion and I know that the presenter milks the fact that she is a therapist but to be honest that means nothing to me; when people put themselves forward as experts it doesn't mean that what they're saying is necessarily true. I prefer Dr Campbells more humble approach

I'd love to see a dive into EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming). I'm not sure how it works, and would love to know more. A friend of mine who suffers from CPTSD recommended it to me. Within 17 minutes, I had a profound breakthrough and made connections that I'd been trying to figure out for over 30 years. I'd like to note I've been on medication, psilocybin and have had many therapy sessions as well over years, none of which have helped me as much as EMDR.
On a separate note, I know you've discussed the gut brain connection. I think this is extremely impactful on mental health. I base this on personal experience as well. In the modern age of sugar and other additives being included in so much of our diet, our gut flora has been negatively impacted. Introducing probiotics daily, and longterm as well as addressing candida has helped my depression as well. Of course, again, this is my personal experience. But my reading has shown validity to this.

    • James C Gardner

@Josephine Williams I see where you're coming from there and I believe that although this may have been the case it does not mean it all came naturally, I mean he still had to seek, study and follow the method, for these were the mortal tools which 'enabled' him to 'walk with god' and if we are to take the stance there was no effort on his part is I believe, to belittle him.
This is where I believe the common teachings let us down, because if we are ever to 'walk with god' it is not a simple belief that will get us there. The method must be learnt and only self discipline will ensure one's success. When we pray for our food for example, is this enough? Should we not take care on the method of it's growth and of it's nutritional value? Should we not also take onus of the impact on the physical body.. should we take cake for it's flavor and it's appeal to our base instincts or choose magnolia bark for it's healing properties? These are the methods of which I speak. If we are to place the onus of our salvation in others hands and not in our own we are failing ourselves.. I don't mean to belitle the method your faith but I firmly believe if we are to teach we should teach the whole method. Is faith without trial? Do we expect rewards without taking action? Are we to reap joy when we sew sorrow? I am reminded of an old addage, 'god loves sweat'.
All I am saying is that if the choices we make determine our ability to walk with God then surely the information pertaining to it's practical application should not be dismissed lightly.
I realise we are on different pages here, and I am probably writing to clarify my own perception as much as to convey an understanding to anyone reading this so thanks for the opportunity. All good Josephine, nice to see your stance on your beliefs and your faith in the good things in this world, be well and all the best 😊✌

After having a mushroom experience, the next day I feel more gentle. More emotionally tender, and more sensitive to other people's feelings. It does make sense to me that the right therapist would be able to use that period of reflection to help a patient find their way through a past trauma. For my entire adult life, I have been close to a community of people who do use mushrooms in this way. The only différance is that we usually don't hire therapists for the reflection period. We just naturally have developed the skills needed to help one another through that reflection period. I am most interested in how much better a skilled and well-trained therapist may be able to use this reflection period to help the patient.

Thank you for covering this. I have one critique: “the issue”.
Is “the issue” merely termed such to direct to “depression”? Or are these studies working with patients who have done work to acknowledge and articulate “the issue” that is at “the root” of the depression?
IMO, that is essential to ensure that one goes in and out of the assisted psychedelic experience with a foundation and cosmology to comprehend what they are going to experience.
Also, issues with substance reliance contribute to depression, and promoting another substance that alters reality of people who are probably not being guided in the first place is very concerning.
Reaching “psychedelic” altered states does not require strong psychedelic substances .
We need to respect that we aren’t accustomed to the “shamanic path” in our modern, western allopathic world.
Sadly, our imperialistic, reductionist world-view, might be our own undoing. Except, our western world view won’t just kill “westerners”.
    Doesn’t have to, though.

Fasting raises bdnf, which is the same method of action.

@ItsElevenFiftyFive had the same experience recently and i had done it many times in the past. A full trip can take you to some uncomfortable places. I had that same unclean thing go on in my trip. Everything in my life was examined in torturous detail. It was very instructive though because i saw myself from a completly different perspective. All my ego and BS was stripped away and there was nowhere to hide from what it was showing me. No great revelations about the meaning of life other than i really needed to get somethings sorted out. That part lasted around 2 hours and then came the reflection. Life is not all fun and games and you need to get focused on things that matter is what i took from it. Micro dosing is way easier so maybe stick with that.

It's not the first study that has shown the benefits of psychedelics. There are two approaches. Either a single higher psychoactive dose, or a longer treatment protocol with a low dose. A common theme of the psychoactive experience seems to be a connection to death/god. It stimulates areas of the brain that normally only become active after death. But this doesn't have to be the reason for the long-term improvement without rebound effect. It's possible that the brain homeostasis changes during the altered state of the brain. Some speculate that the ancient Greeks and the original pre-Roman Christians also used psychedelics in their rituals, which allowed them to find god/death. Once you found it, nothing can make you afraid anymore, no anxiety, no PTSD. I think this is one component of depression as well, though our culture and society also play a significant role.

I have recently been experimenting with DMT, in the space of just over a month it has done more for my mental health then 3 years of anti depressants and therapy. It's not just the chemical side of things, the experiences I've had while under the influence of the drug are a big part of the healing process and taught me things about myself. I've got major depression and regular suicidal ideation and since using DMT I've not been suicidal once and depression is significantly reduced.
This is an area which really needs to be looked into, no doubt it will be nipped in the bud because producing DMT at home is cheap and easy, so no big profits for big pharma and all the roadblocks the gov will put in place given that DMT is a controlled substances.

I love your channel Dr. Campbell and usually I come here to learn about areas of biology that are outside of my are of expertise. I felts compelled to comment on this particular video since this is one of my areas of expertise. I work in preclinical pharmacology and for the past 3-4 years there has been a boom in interest in psychedelics, and the lab work has been supporting a lot of the claims of benefits to patients suffering from depression/addiction/anxiety. I understand the surpise at the choice of DMT here, rather than other serotonergic psychedelics, but this may boil down to pharmacokinetics and side effect profile. Fortunately, the extreme psychedelic experiences don't necessarily correspond to antidepressant efficacy of different psychedelics, so expect that after clinical trials with DMT and common psychedelics, you will begin to see variants of these molecules that will likely have the therapeutic outcome we all desire, without the "hallucinations" that are often seen as a barrier for these types of drugs.

I've had some form of depression/dystymia most of my adult life.
About 17 years ago I participated in an shaman lead ayahuasca ceremony.
It was a very powerful experience, which appeared to keep positively influencing my emotional and even spiritual experiences for almost a year after the ceremony.
But the important epiphany from that experience is that what is called "mental depression" in the West, is better and more accurately described as "Soul Loss".
The cumulative effects of social isolation and alienation that is the real product of industrial consumer societies.

I self medicated using psilocybin to combat depression and burn out that resulted from the covid 19 epidemic. I also had pretty severe OCD at the time which wasn't helping my stress. I took about 1/8th of a recreational dose every 3rd day for 3 weeks and it helped massively. Burnout gone immediately and a lot happier in myself just from the fact I could think more clearly. I had counselling and CBT after I finished with the mushrooms and believe it primed me for therapy. I managed to get a hold of my OCD in 5 sessions which my psychologist was extremely impressed by. I really do believe it helps you out of the neurotic thought loop in your head by opening up new neural connections.
Large pharmaceutical companies won't want this, not enough money to be made. You can literally grow them at home yourself, or go out and pick them in the autumn. Follow the money

One of the exciting effects of psychedelics is that it builds 'neuroplasticity' in the brain 🧠 meaning the brain becomes more flexible moldable and it can lead to new connection between neurons.
As a result people can change their deeply established habits and pattern.

The Capitalist Medicine model is to "treat only symptoms and effect no cures," Most of pharmacology is symptom suppression. Walk the aisles of your drug store and you find cough medicine, pain medicine but no cures. This is why Socialized Medicine outcomes are so much better, they focus on curing the patient. Capitalist doctors want you just well enough to go out and spread your illness and drum up new business for them. Got an interesting point, ivermectin may be the cure for the common cold and the flu, both are usually viral. They are now using ivermectin for treating AIDS, Zeka, and a bunch of other viruses.

Take too much and you just get a niacin glow, otherwise can cause some nasty side effects such as jaw clenching and head aches.

Thankyou- this has made my year! Both myself and my mum have been denied mental health treatment due to (exact words) our traumas being to diverse and severe for them to help.
As you can imagine that did not help the situation. My mum has cabin fever after being a recluse for 20 years and I have been investigating psilocybin and have been amazed with the results from California. I truly have been looking to get some so I can give to my mum in a perfect setting.
With this mushroom - NOT DMT- it’s best to give therapy WHILST you are in a psychedelic state as the mushroom re wires your connections and what ever connections are made during the process become the dominant pathway. Therapy after will help but what is done during the time on it is most important.
I am so so happy. Only thing let’s see if we are ever able to get help from the NHS to do with metal heath issues… as frankly the only way the NHS helps is with actual emergencies and cancer treatments. Anything else seriously good luck!

Thank you so much Dr Campbell. I had taken a couple of SSRI/SNRIs for anxiety and several episodes of depression in my 20's and 30's and it definitely helped for several months, but the side effects took over and I was lucky to be able stop taking them. I had to wean myself VERY slowly over a few months period, using supplements like L Theanine, magnesium and 5-hTP. By changing to a gluten free diet and increasing exercise and sleep, I've been able to be prescription free for over 12 years. The gut biome theory is definitely the case for myself as well as my mother (suffers from IBD, depression) I'd like to see more long term research into the psychedelics and also if it's possible to use while also taking SSRIs, to help wean. Depression is a complex problem, so it's definitely a matter of treating the whole person, spiritually and physically. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7510518/

@The Great White Unbelievably, this safe (with D2 if oral) simple & cheap supplement (for me with a doctor's Rx, but easily available over the counter for anyone) has allowed me to begin transforming my life.
Yes, HORMONE D is basic to our health and happiness. I was truly shocked to finally discover that many of my problems began only when my D level fell from carbamazepine and perhaps also chronic high cortisol from drastic life changes. In retrospect, it clearly happened twice in my life, once at only 10 (moving from the Tropics) then again later at 35 (both times getting fat/obese & depressed). Other parts of our Sun's gifts also make huge differences, but all I changed at first was taking those pills. Now after very bad health and unhappiness since 1995, I again have a tan and a smile. I am 2/3rds of the way back to a normal weight with Keto/IF that I only found the relief from physical pain, hope & motivation to begin AFTER my D got above 50ng/ml!
Because of my brain anomalies, I may never again be able to take shrooms or LSD, but as long as I can keep my D > 50ng/ml (125nmol/L) I believe I can stay happy and healthy. It is so sad that our medical system allows us to stay so sickly and depressed when this safe and cheap/free hormone is much of what we need.

    • The Great White

@Elise Villemaire Are you referring to vitamin D?

    • Elise Villemaire
      Elise Villemaire 22 dni temu

Therapy can be most wonderfully helpful, but every therapist and doctor needs to make sure we all have at least our Evolutionary D LEVELS >50NG/ML OR 125nmol/L! When our brains/bodies have this critical hormone (10% of all our genes are affected by it) therapies can do wonders very quickly. But with low D, not much can really change.

Outstanding! Psychedelic assisted therapy (LSD, Psilocybin, MDMA and DMT) is having tremendous results when combined with therapy sessions to treat severe PTSD and depression. The social stigma with these substances need to be let go and they need to be viewed for what they really are. They are life savers and quite literally magic bullet cures.

I have experimented with DMT twice in my life, and neither times was I in any state of depression. However, after both times I had what I can only consider as life-changing reconsiderations coming out of the 15-or-so minute trips. I was an unhealthy, drinking, cigarette smoking fool... and after my trips I became extremely self-aware, eventually quitting the nicotine, cut back immensely on alcohol. Honestly it would take me hours to describe what those moments of 15 minutes did for me.
There's a reason DMT and other natural psychedelics, even down to cannabis and CBD, reacts to us in the way they do... we evolved as a species to use them for a reason.

As someone that has suffered from depression and anxiety throughout my life. With three major depressive episode that needed respite care to keep me safe. I would do anything to cure my depression. It’s a living hell. By the way DMT isn’t the heavy weight, the trip last only a number of minutes. Remember patients are fully supported during the trial. Anti depressants do not work for me and we need to look into alternative drugs. My cousin had also suffered from depression and anxiety and is also a Psychologist, he has started micro dosing ketamine and it has been the best thing that has happened for him and his illness

@Maria oh maria. Your reply really made me sad. I’m so so sorry you are at the point where you are in such cross roads in your life. It gets old real quick doesn’t it. Thank you for sharing and it sounds like it’s been a very long hard road for you. It’s difficult when you have obviously worked incredibly hard to get ahead in life, to have 3 degrees is such a huge achievement! I am a nurse too :) I know doing one degree was hard enough ! To me it just shows how resilient you are and that you are incredibly driven, to have achieved what you have while suffering from the debilitating effects that depression can have on someone is truly inspiring. I’m like you, I’ve tried everything also and you wonder why after doing so much work on yourself that things go to shit. Im sorry you have long Covid symptoms that is the icing on the cake. I totally get it. I’ve struggled too and then on top of everything suffered a major set back after a prolonged seizure, I had a hypoxic head injury from it that took a long time to recover from, I also obtained multiple vertebral fractures when I collapsed and landed backwards into a chair! I’ve had to had three spinal surgeries since and my physical health is crap. It’s stopped me from doing the job I loved and so much more. As humans we can only take so much. After my accident I lost all hope and was also suicidal attempting and had to be put into respite care. I felt a burden on those who I loved and that without my mental and physical health there was nothing in my life any more. My children saved me, I had to dig so deep in order to get through, although I didn’t want to be here I owed my children a mother. Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom and approach our life journey from a completely different perspective. One thing that changed things for the better was going to an intuitive healer. I’d done hours of therapy too. Within 4 sessions with this woman I achieved 100 times more insight into myself and my illness than all of the drugs and therapy combined. I learned to love myself at 49 years old. It changed so much. It bought me a lot of peace and freedom. It’s a grieving process we go through when illness takes away the life we once knew. I had to get to a place of acceptance and then stop fighting trying to be the old me and be content and accepting that life wasn’t going to be the way I thought it would be. That my physical and mental health will always be a battle, and I had to suck it up as hard as it was to settle for that shitty way of living. I started small and stopped the fight. I woke each day with gratitude, I am thankful for my children and that I had a roof over my head. I turned my illness around and thanked it for making me slow down enough so that I could actually appreciate the moment a lot more, have time to soak up the beauty of the things around me that I never had the time to process when I was working hard as a nurse and a mother. I try to mediate and to find the beauty in the gift of life. I soak up the love I receive from my kids and if things improve then it’s a bonus. I really do hope that you find your way, I feel like crying reading your story as I totally understand how dark life can be. You have the intelligence and resilience to get yo a better place, it may not be perfect but I know you can do it. Your stronger than you know and I will send out some reiki healing to you tonight and I hope that you know your not alone. Sending you my love and encouragement from New Zealand. Take care of yourself and don’t be hard on yourself either. One day at a time dear. Sending you healing and love x

I feel you, as I am in the same boat. It’s a horrible disease. Long Covid adds to the brain dilemma. I’m almost done with Ketamine IVs, am doing Ketamine capsules, oxytocin SL, have been on multiple antidepressants, been in a psych hospital, tried suicide twice, 250+ hours of various therapies, etc. And I also have three degrees, am a nurse (applied for disability recently), and not able to leave the house anymore. I’m sitting on my couch thinking “when did my life go to shit?”.

I’ve taken mushrooms plenty of time recreationally. I’ve struggled with heroin and cocaine addiction. I’ve taken most drugs at one time or another. LSD and mushrooms and DMT once, were always very different drugs my mind, while I did end up over using LSD at one point where it became unpleasant to use. But I suspect that was because I had a building of mental health issues and needed therapy. Basically I would take it with friends and end up wanting to have emotional therapy type conversations. And when my friends couldn’t be my therapist i became very anxious upset and irrational. One time I had a conversation with my mom on LSD and it felt like the best release of build up mental issues I’ve ever had.
I would absolutely do this as a real therapy. Every time I took these drugs images and ideas that are normally hard to grasp became clear and easy to convey to other people. Talking about PTSD related trauma became easy and fulfilling to talk about. I don’t consider moderate or low doses to be ‘phsychedeilic’ I really consider them emotional enhancers. When people say “set and setting” are important for these drugs to me that always mean what ever emotions I had currently kicking around became unavoidable. So you couldn’t say to yourself “im going to let this anxiety about some truama go” or “i wont focus on this decision I’m upset about” you HAD to deal with it and solve it truly. And when you did this it was actually gone, those problems got solved in that 6-10 hour window and now being in therapy for years after stopping any drug use I realize how fast that was compared to the years it’s taken to work through issues now. Both are possible but there is a quickness and strength with psychedelics that conventional therapy and drugs can’t do. It can absolutely be unpleasant.
It’s essentially taking a drug that makes it impossible to ignore your insecurities, depressive thoughts, anxiety’s, general worries, regrets. But it’s not torture it forces you to face these things it doesn’t just bring them up and torture you. It brings them up and makes it possible to see things in a perspective totally different to regulate life. And somehow that results in processing it and at the end if you faced it well enough it feels solved. And concluded. For me it always felt like a very strong self experience. I didn’t need validation that I solved it I just knew it. If anyone including you John would like to talk more about this I’d be happy to. My Twitter is @adriscio95

I have been on SSRI's since 1998 and have never succeeded in coming off them, I have tried at least 5 times over long periods of time 6-9 months at least this is due to chronic withdrawal symptoms, suicidal thought and severe anxiety, which I have been admitted to hospital for.
It would be great if someone could create a drug to help with this.

Hi Linda, if someone could give me a guaranteed timeline and say to me that it would be over soon, I would have stuck it out, but withdrawal from SSRI'S can go on for months and sometimes a couple of years, it doesn't just affect me but my whole family, I don't speak or communicate, I just feel and look terrified, I can't drive or leave the house, I have stuck it out for a time but ended up in hospital, I can't put myself or my family through it again.

@Louise Johnson I know exactly what you mean. 3 times I’ve ended up like this, once been hospitalised which was traumatic in itself. I accepted the fact I would need to stay on them to have my son and thankfully he is healthy and I’ve even managed to breastfeed on them for 2.5 years. I just hope for a breakthrough otherwise I don’t know if il ever find the strength to try again x

I had MDMA years ago and was amazed how it allowed me to see many of the self-imposed roadblocks I had placed in front of me. Pre=loading with tryptophan was very positive and made the recovery that much easier to accomplish. The event had an amazing time dilatation effect. You could sit and talk about issues that you might never bring up and the exposure was very therapeutic. It was like laying all of your issues out on a table and walking around these issues and realizing that the issues were very blown out of scale and the fear and stress was very much reduced. The event was like 5 years of therapy in one evening.

You're right to warn about picking mushrooms which might be poisonous, for anyone tempted to conduct their own research.... But like others who have commented, I have also taken dried magic mushrooms in the past, and in a mild dose, as I didn't want to have the hallucinations.
Taking a mild dose definitely altered my consciousness and on one occasion seemed to unleash a lot of energy. I was not suffering from depression at the time, and it was more out of curiosity, but can well imagine from my own experience that it could transform somebody who is severely depressed and unable to do anything...

@The EA lol actually if two experts say different things i usually look at who pays them where is there funding. What pharma company treats them with giveaways.
science follows the money it doesnt follow the facts.
look at how everyone trust the boosters and the propaganda behind it. i got 3 different covid jabs i'm not anti vacine. A booster gives only a small percentage boost of not getting the virus with the v small chance of lots of side effects but governments are rolling it out at a phenominal cost and the public are lapping it up. ironically youre immunity is higher if you contract the virus because you have antobodies to the recent strain and not a strain that was popular 1-2 years ago. hardly scientific is it?
sorry about that vent i just had.... back to the point everything is based on trust. we trust until until we have enough knowledge to make our own educated informed opinion. think from a philosophical angle.

The more level-headed, evidence based analysis to help the public understand this research the better. Cognitive therapy works for me most of the time. Recently I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and I have been through chemo/radio therapy and then operated on. Whilst I was receiving chemo I was on steroids and they left me feeling possibly the happiest in ages. Also recovering from surgery I was on the pain killer ketamine. This drug, apparently available on the streets left me feeling calm and relaxed. I understand it's absolutely addictive, but used responsibly this worked wonders for me whilst I was recovering. The images just distracted me and stopped the earworms in my head, negative self talk.

I have had point sadness (from specific circumstances in my life) completely and permanently disappear from psychedelics. One example, I was basically rejected by a girl after a long series of events during which we were intimate, and I was pretty gutted over it. I took LSA (LSD precursor) and had a bit of a vision quest that told me why I shouldn't be sad, and why everything is okay. And it was a permanent shift of attitude regarding that circumstance. When the drug hit me I went somewhere else in reality and the "spirit" of the plant or whatever actually scolded me for using it for recreation, but said "this one's on me anyways". Very interesting experience
