Risk of BA.5 Infection among Persons Exposed to Previous SARS-CoV-2 Variants
Omicron subvariants, BA.1 and BA.2, displaced by BA.5 in many countries
    Greater transmissibility
Partial evasion of BA.1- and BA.2-induced immunity
Portugal, one of the first countries affected by a BA.5 predominance
    N = 9,307,996
All Portuguese residents aged 12 years and older, (National Census 2021)
    Uninfected people in June 1st 2022 was 5, 328, 287, (57% of the Portuguese population over 12)
(PCR tests and rapid antigen tests to diagnose cases)
Presence of undocumented infections among the “uninfected” group of individuals
29.2% of infections were not notified
(based on the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 anti-N IgG in the population)
National coronavirus disease 2019 registry (SINAVE)
(all reported cases in the country, regardless of clinical presentation)
To calculate the risk of BA.5 infection after documented infection with past variants,
    including BA.1 and BA.2
Times when different variants represented more than 90% of the isolates
To calculate their infection risk during the period of BA.5 dominance
Pooled BA.1 and BA.2 (slow transition between the two subvariants)
    Comparator group
Population that did not have any documented infection before BA.5 dominance (June 1, 2022)
    Wuhan-Hu-1 55.7%
    Alpha 58.8%
    Delta 64.5%
    BA.1 / BA.2 7 6.8%
We found that previous SARS-CoV-2 infection had a protective effect against BA.5 infection
Protection was maximal for previous infection with BA.1 or BA.2 (not suprising)
Portugal more than 98% of the study population completed the primary vaccination series before 2022
There is a perception that the protection afforded by previous BA.1 or BA.2 infection is very low, given the high number of BA.5 infections among persons with previous BA.1 or BA.2 infection.
Our data indicate that this perception is probably a consequence of the larger pool of persons with BA.1 or BA.2 infection than with infection by other subvariants, and it is not supported by the data.
Breakthrough infections with the BA.5 subvariant were less likely among persons with a previous SARS-CoV-2 infection history … especially for previous BA.1 or BA.2 infection, than among uninfected persons.

    Natural immunity isn't very profitable...

I am in Portugal, unvaccinated, followed the vit D + zinc + Vit C + quercitine protocol for 2 years; a clean organic diet; regular exercise. Caught whatever dominant variant was around here back in the end of May and only had a headache for a day and felt tired for a couple of days. Superhealthy at 59. I now have natural immunity. Very happy, thanks.

No, Dr. Campbell, you’re not wrong. Natural immunity was not only not discussed, but was actively discouraged, ridiculed, and censored to the detriment of those in the world who knew nothing about it, after the installation of unreasonable fear, of course.

Well, God bless Portugal for this study! I'm in the US and have been screaming into the void about Natural Immunity. God bless you as well, Dr. Campbell for bringing this paper to light.

Thank you for everything Dr. Campbell, here in Ontario, we lost another young athlete, 20 year old hockey player, died while playing a couple days ago, so terribly sad, TEam mates have quit, have health & heart troubles, THIS MUST BE discussed each & every day, while they force university students to boost, this is madness. I dont care what tweaks they have made, WE HAVE RIGHT TO CHOOSE without discrimination, NO mATTER what

My husband and I had original Covid (end of 2019) and Omicron (September 2021) not vaccinated. First infection lasted 2 weeks and was like the worst flu I’d ever had. Second time was like a 48 hour illness (fever, chills, cough).

I don't think You Tube allowed content creators to say "natural immunity" two years ago.

I'm Portuguese and didn't know about this study. Nothing here about it and still ongoing campaing for vaccination. Thank you Dr. John. I know one of the researchers, glad he did this. Happy to know!

Doctor, I appreciate you. My concern is that the vaccine damages immune system, then you are vulnerable to other infections.

I'm in Canada. You're quite right about the fact that the officials don't talk about natural immunity much. Most of them are still beating the booster shot drum. I got BA.1 in January and always felt that was my booster shot. It's sad how many folks I know got omicron, then immediately rushed out to get a booster shot because they didn't want to get covid again. I don't feel like our health officials are doing a very good job educating people about how this stuff works. They finally did come out and say that if you have covid you should wait 3 months before getting a booster. But that recommendation was quieter than the "get your booster shot now" message.

Had symptomatic Covid twice. February 2020. June 2022. (Twenty-eight months between infections despite numerous direct exposures.) Currently 50 years old. Unvaccinated. 100% resistant. Natural immunity works when you take good care of yourself.

We have been with my mother in the hospital for 7 weeks visiting her every day and helping nurses. She caught ba5 and survived . Both hubby and I had ba1 and did not catch anything from her - she was coughing on us all the time. We are unvaccinated.

Thank you for your consistent updates and interpretation of data. Last year I watched some of your videos and didn't feel you were supportive of us unvaxxed people! I was very sceptical of your agenda, which iam sure was something many unvaxxed were experiencing. There was enormous strain on us as being the cause, the harm and somewhat punished for choosing nojab. Thankyou now shining truth on the adverse reactions and the truth about natural immunity. I am middle aged, fit and healthy woman in Australia. I've been locked in, refused entry, despised by family and friends, I lost my job, but I stand in my decision to not be vaxxed. Thanks again, I look forward to your updates now. 😊

Dr. John is a shinning light in these dark times. I cannot help but feel many many people are traumatised and off balance. Not just those of us who have lost people. These continue to be uncertain times and we all seem to be victims of geo-politics. Integrity seems to be the rarest of commodity these days.

I’m Portuguese and this study is not being disclosed to us. I had no idea if it’s existence. On the other hand our health department is already preparing another vaccine campaign for October for children from 5 to 11 as they want more children of that age vaccinated. By the way I’m unvaccinated and have no idea if I already had Covid or not as I’ve never did a Covid test. When I’m sick I just isolate myself until I feel pretty ok. So far I had nothing out of the ordinary for me.

This definitely held true for my husband and I. We had, what we can only assume was early BA variant mid December, 2021. My hubby was vaxxed with J&J when it was first introduced, and I am unvaxxed. We attended a wedding late May where 20+ people came down with whatever variant that was, including 90% of the people seated at our table. We hugged and talked to several of them all night. We did not get that variant and have not caught any other variant since. I totally believe in amazing natural immunity!!!! Thank you Dr Campbell for keeping us up to date on all the latest information!

John, thank you very much for your factual videos. Your teaching is the most lucid and pertinent of any I have encountered. It is a shame that our governmental agencies don't follow and take your advice regarding the virus and natural immunity.
